Background

The complex of the multi-adaptor-proteins CASK, Mint and Veli, also referred to as MALS and Lin 7, is conserved across kingdoms and may be involved in localizing synaptic vesicles at synaptic terminals. Three Veli isoforms (1, 2 and 3) with different expression patterns have been described, so far.
Veli proteins have also been suggested to participate in regulating the recruitment of neurotransmitter receptors to the post synaptic density (PSD) by interaction with their PDZ domains.
