Post-Synaptic Proteins

Neurons communicate with each other via synapses. When ionotropic receptor molecules on the post-synaptic side receive neurotransmitter molecules from the pre-synapse they open their molecular channels and allow selected ions to pass through the membrane. By this mechanism the biochemical signal is converted into an electric one.
