Immunolabeling of inhibitory synapses in the central nervous system. Immunoreactivity was revealed using carbocyanine 2, 3, and 5-conjugated secondary antibodies. Neurofilaments (SMI 32) and choline-acetyltransferase (ChAT) were detected with mouse and goat antibodies. Rats were transcardially perfused with a fixative containing 4 % paraformaldehyde and 0.1 % glutaraldehyde in phosphate buffer (0.1M, pH 7.4).
