MAL 2
A member of the MAL protein family
General Information
MAL 2 is an integral membrane protein that contains 4 putative transmembrane domains and belongs to the
myelin
and
lymphocyte (MAL) protein family. Two isoforms,
MAL 2A and MAL 2B, have been described so far. MAL 2 overexpression has been reported in several cancer types like breast, ovarian, and pancreatic carcinoma. It has been shown to be an essential component of the machinery for basolateral-to-apical transcytosis in hepatoma HepG2 cells but its mechanistic function still has to be elucidated.
Recently MAL 2A has been identified as a synaptic vesicle protein mainly localized to VGluT positive vesicles.
